Many employers claim that they want individuals who are fast learners, fast thinkers…etc…they vet candidates on the so called “essential skills”, one of the ways that they do this is by use of aptitude tests

General Aptitude test generally gauge various aspects of an individual

• Their ability to handle pressure

• Their wit

• Ability to think fast

• Among others

Other hybrid tests go ahead to find such items as character

To enable you to take advantage of this situation why don’t you undertake the many free aptitude tests available on the internet…the practice and immediate feedback enables you to be able to learn and understand yourself…you could also be surprised to find out that some hr officers basically get their aptitude test from the internet

You could do one better by doing such a test that is three part...i.e...numerical test, verbal test and abstract test…after getting the favorable result print the results and send copies together with your CV on job applications…they might think you are an applicant of higher caliber and even if they don’t adopt such results they are sure to give points for originality and even an interview

Participate in a worthy course

I am sure there are many courses even in your own neighborhood that you can undertake and get at least a certificate at…try one today and you are sure to get bonus points on your applications since your social and interpersonal skills are exposed

By participating in the above you could get expose in working with NGO’s which you could indicate especially when applying for NGO jobs

Try participating in a tough sport or outdoor event

Try participating in charity runs, camps etc where your endurance is stretched…where a certificate is offered then the better however you can not underplay the fact that you could network with individuals that could enable you secure a job

try doing a small business

when you undertake a small job before you get a real job you not only stand to get extra income but incase the hr asks and gets answer that show you have been active even when unemployed especially when you have stayed for long in unemployment then the hr is able to see your versatility and adaptability as opposed to other candidates...this is a plus
