Ever wondered why women have to carry a handbag with them? What is it they have to carry over and above what an ordinary man has to carry?

Those are questions I can’t answer for now…however though hand bags are also carried for other reasons other than for practicality...Like for say fashion

As fashion items they come in a variety of designs, shapes,sizes, materials...etc

Handbags are broadly classified into the following categories

• ·        Casual handbags
• ·        Dressy handbags
• ·        Clutches

Casual handbags

These are generally the handbags that most women spot…theyare bigger and voluminous and carry anything between a pair shoes, newspaper to a full make-up kit

They have both hand straps and the arm straps for convenient handling besides many compartments and pockets

Casual handbags are made more for practicability than fashionability, however though some could be trendy

Here is an example of a casual handbag

Dressy handbag

They are generally smaller and compact

They are also very fashionable and generally do not contain one compartment

Due to their trendy nature they can only be sported withspecific outfits to produce a desired effect

They also usually contain strap…either the hand strap or the arm strap...not both

Here is an example of a dressy handbag

Clutches

They are the smallest of the handbag family and some schools of thought still argue that they should not be classified as handbags

They may have a wrist strap unlike all the other handbags or no strap at all

It is believed that clutches are a woman’s answer to women’s outfits that don’t have pockets

They are fashionable items
