Nairobi's uhuru park

History

nairobi is uhuru park is easily the most famous park in Kenya since the 60’s…it is located at the town centre a walking distance from the city centre…it encompasses green lawns, artificial lake and an open stadium in a piece of land that is approximately 10acres.

It is accessible through ngong road to the south, uhuru Highway to the east, valley road to the north and nyerere road to the west.

 Location

It is just 100 meters from the central business district and located just west of parliament buildings, south of central park, north of railways club and west of upper hill area

  • Free of charge on entry
  • Boat rides are about 100kshs  per boat per hour

Famous for

  • Political and religious gatherings.
  • The August 1996 burning of  a heaps of condoms by a group led by  Archbishop Maurice Michael Otunga
  • Being Nairobi’s leading street skate-boarding spot

 Infamous for

  • Site where protests by prof wangari mathai and others against illegal land grabbing by the moi political regime happened.
  • Bomb blast in June 2010, which killed six people and left over 100 people injured.

What to always remember

  1. Do not litter
  2. This is a public utility there for do not conduct yourself in any appropriate manner
  3. Do not feed the fish
